Dhaka: Ailing Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will not be taken to Singapore tonight and his treatment will be continued at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital.

‘After consulting with Singaporean doctors, we all decided that he (Quader) will not be taken to Singapore tonight. His condition is now better than the afternoon’s physical state,’ BSMMU vice-chancellor Professor Kanak Kanti Barua briefed reporters on the hospital premises, reports the BSS.

He said: ‘We will observe him till tomorrow morning. Then if required, he will be sent to Singapore.’

Earlier, a medical team of specialist physicians from Singapore Mount Elizabeth Hospital reached Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital by an air ambulance this evening joining the Bangladeshi physicians to provide treatment to ailing Quader, also Awami League general secretary.

The air ambulance was kept ready for taking AL general secretary Obaidul Quader abroad for better treatment.

Obaidul Quader was admitted to the BSMMU Hospital as he had breathing problem after Fajr prayers on Sunday.

He was diagnosed with three blockages in his coronary artery while one block has already been removed this morning, according to the BSMMU physicians. A medical team was also formed.

The minister was first taken to BSMMU Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at 8:30am and then shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital.

Earlier the BSMMU vice-chancellor said Quader’s physical condition is now stable and improving steadily.

‘We are 100 per cent hopeful about his recovery. He can now open his eyes and talk. But he is still not out of danger,’ Prof. Kanak Barua briefed reporters in the evening.

AL general secretary opened his eyes when President Abdul Hamid visited him, and he responded to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opening his eyes slightly, he added.
