Gazipur: Through elections to ‘student cabinet’, the children of the country will grow up with the values of democracy, said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Thursday.

‘These elections will help students to learn how to take decision and do their own works by themselves,’ said the minister while observing election to the student cabinet at Begum Sufia Model High School in Kaliakoir upazila, reports the UNB.

The student cabinet election has been introduced in secondary schools and madrasas across the country since 2015 and it will be continued further, she said.

Additional secretary of Education Ministry Md Fasiullah, Kaliakoir UNO Kazi Hafizur Amin were present there.

The student cabinet elections are being held at all secondary schools and Dakhil madrassahs across the country on Thursday. 

The portfolios of the student cabinets are – preservation of environment, sports, health, cultural programmes, tree plantation, observation of different days and other activities. 

The elections are being held at 16,245 secondary schools and 6,716 Dakhil madrassahs, under 559 upazilas and thanas in eight metropolitan cities and eight divisions. 

A total of 3,24,837 students are contesting against 1,83,688 positions in these institutions while the number of total voters are 1,14,95,618.
