Dhaka: Members of the newly-elected Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) went to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban on Saturday afternoon.

Vice-President-elect Nurul Haque Nur, General Secretary-elect Golam Rabbani and Assistant General Secretary-elect Saddam Hossain, accompanied by others, reached the PM’s residence around 2pm.

The meeting was scheduled to begin at 4pm, reports the UNB.

Prime Minister Hasina invited them on Thursday.

The March-11 Ducsu polls, the first in 28 years, were marred by allegations of irregularities. All panels, except that of Awami League student front Bangladesh Chhatra League, boycotted the election alleging vote fraud.

Chhatra League’s panel dominated the polls but its VP candidate was defeated by quota reform movement leader Nur.

The latest election also highlighted the poor state of BNP student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, which won all major posts in the 1990 Ducsu polls but failed to win even a single post this time.
