Chattogram: At least ten people were injured in sporadic clashes between Bangladesh Chhatra League(BCL) activists and police on Chittagong University campus during a blockade enforced by a faction of BCL to press home their 4-point demand including release of some of their leaders, reports the UNB.

Earlier in the day, a faction of BCL took position at Zero Point on the campus around 7am and staged demonstrations after locking the university’s main gate. service.

Later, they put up a barricade on the rail tracks and picked up a driver of the shuttle train that disrupted the service and created sufferings to the university-bound teachers and several thousand students.

Although the driver was released later, the train service remained suspended till filing of this report around 3 pm.

Belal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Hathazari Police Station, said police asked the BCL men to open the lock of the main gate but they ignored it and some of them carried out an attack on police and hurled brick chips towards them, forcing police to take action.

Ten people, including police constable Farid, were injured during the clash, he said adding the situation is under control now.

Police also fired bullets and lobbed tear gas shells during the clashes. Several crude bombs were exploded during the melee.

The BCL men vandalised a number of vehicles including a police vehicle.
