Chattogram: The main accused of a murder case was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Baklia in the port city early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Md Saiful, 28, son of Rafiq Ahmed of Sabujbag residential, reports the UNB.

Saiful was the prime accused in the killing of HM Lokman Hossain of Golpahar area, said Pranab Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Baklia Police Station.

A team of police arrested two murder case accused—Saiful and Ziauddin Babul—from Fatikchhari area on Monday.

Following their information, police conducted a drive in Kolpolok Residential area to recover arms.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the accused’s associates tried to snatch them and opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

The gunfight left Saiful injured with bullet.

Later, the injured was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Saiful and Lokman were known as ‘Boro Bhai’ among the teenagers of Baklia and Golpahar areas respectively.

Lokman was shot dead in Baklia Khalpar area on April 6 when he went there to settle a love-related dispute among two groups of juvenile.

Lokman’s family members claimed that Lokman was shot dead by Saiful.
