Dhaka: Violent storms hit capital Dhaka on Tuesday evening helping its air quality to post a marked improvement.

Dhaka climbed down to 22nd position in the Air Quality Index (AQI) as it had a score of 82 at 7:02pm, indicating that the air quality was moderate.

Delhi topped the list of cities with worst air quality with a score of 153, followed by Brussels and Chiang Mai, reports the UNB.

The AQI, an index for reporting daily air quality, informs people how clean or polluted the air of a certain city is, and what associated health effects might be a concern for them.

An AQI score between 51 and 100 suggests that the air quality is acceptable.

Dhaka has been struggling with air pollution for a long time. Its air quality worsens during summer and shows signs of improvement in monsoon.

In the evening, the tropical storms hit the Bangladesh capital with a wind speed of up to 85 kph. The Met Office recorded 11 mm rain fall in one hour since 6pm.
