Fulgazi upazila chairman suspended
Dhaka: The government on Sunday suspended Fulgazi Upazila chairman of Feni Abdul Alim on charges of obstructing the Union Parishad election process and creating intimidation among the people.
The Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued a notification suspending Abdul Alim as the allegation against him was proved in the primary investigation.
The Election Commission on Sunday afternoon received the copy of the notification, Director (Public Relations) of the EC SM Asaduzzaman told UNB.
According to the notification, the Upazila chairman allegedly obstructed collection and submission of nomination papers of the UP election, showed threats, engaged in illegal activities, created intimidation among the people, as well as tarnished image of the Election Commission and the Government.
As legal action has taken against Abdul Alim, he was suspended as per the Clause 13(1) of the Upazila Parishad (Amendment) Act 2011, it noted.
Earlier on March 2, the EC instructed Superintendent of Police of Feni to take legal action against Fulgazi Upazila chairman for obstructing nomination papers of six Union Parishads under the Upazila, vandalizing election office and assaulting its staff.
