HC order to deploy cops at mango orchards remains in force
Dhaka: The High Court order to deploy law enforcers in mango orchards in Rajshahi to prevent the use of chemicals remained in force as the state on Tuesday withdrew a petition filed with the Supreme Court challenging the order.
The petition filed on Monday was withdrawn from the court of Chamber Judge Justice Md Nuruzzaman of the Appellate Division, said deputy attorney general Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar, reports the UNB.
On April 9, the HC ordered the deployment of law enforcers at big mango orchards in Rajshahi within seven days to prevent the use of chemicals in the summer fruit.
Besides, an inspection team was ordered to monitor the fruit market and warehouses across the country so that no one can use chemicals to ripen mangos.
The police chief, Rab chief, BSTI direction general and its director (chemical testing wing) were asked to carry out the order and file a report within 30 days.
