Five to die in C’nawabganj for killing girl after rape

Chapainawabganj: A court here on Thursday sentenced five people to death for killing a girl after violating her in Sadar upazila in 2015.

The condemned convicts are-Nayan Karmakar Robidas, a resident of Malbaghdanga village, Proshanto Robidas, a resident of Sonapotti village, Nitaichandra  Robidas, Subash Dash and Proshanto Robidas, residents of Chakpara village, reports the UNB.

Among them, Nitaichandra, Subash and Proshanto were tried in absentia.

The court also fined them Tk one lakh each.

Public prosecutor Anjuman Ara Begum said, police recovered the body of Ayesha, 20, daughter of Mofizul Islam of Kalinagar Bablabona village from a waterbody at Moharajpur Melar intersection on June 24, 2015.

It was found in the autopsy that the girl was killed after rape.

On August 15, sub-inspector Shamim Akhter of Sadar Police Station filed a case against unidentified people.

Later, inspector Sarwar Rahman, investigation officer of the case submitted chargesheet against eight people mentioning that Nayan, who had developed love affair with Aysha, called the girl and violated her along with his associates. Later, they strangled her to death.

After examining all the records, Chapainawabganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 judge Md Shawkat Ali handed down the verdict acquitting three people.
