Charges pressed against JMB man over Ctg double murder
Chittagong: Police on Monday pressed charges against a member of banned Islamist outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in two cases filed over the killing of two people at a so-called shrine in the city’s Bayezid area last year.
Sub-inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Santos Chakma, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge-sheet against JMB man M Sujon alias Babu to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
Some 25 people, including policemen, doctors, explosive experts and locals, have been made witnesses in the charge-sheet.
The investigation officer also recommended clearing detained Abdul Mannan alias Mona, 40, of the murder charge.
On September 4, 2015, two people were chopped to death in an attack by miscreants at a so-called shrine at Bayezid.
The deceased were Rahmatullah alias Nengta Fakir, a so-called fakir, and his follower Abdul Quader, a custodian of the shrine.
Another young man was also injured when the criminals exploded a bomb while fleeing.
