Dhaka: The condition of veteran singer and composer Subir Nandi, who has been on life support at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) since Sunday night, remained unchanged.

The eight-member medical board formed by the CMH examined the singer on Thursday in the presence of Consultant Physician General Maj Gen M Azizul Islam, Chief Physician and Cardiologist Brig Gen Syed Asif Iqbal, CMH Commandant Brig Gen Toufiqul Hasan Siddique and Prof Samantalal Sen, said an ISPR release, reports the UNB.

An MRI was scheduled to be done today to know the condition of his central nervous system as per the decision of the medical board.

The medical board checked the singer earlier on Monday and Tuesday, the release said.

Subir Nandi was taken to the CMH around 10:50pm on Sunday after he fell sick while returning to Dhaka from Srimangal by a train. He vomited several times and complained of severe pain in the throat during the journey.

The singer suffered a cardiac arrest soon after he was taken to the CMH emergency department. Following frantic efforts for 2-4 minutes, his heart started to work again and he was put on life support and shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU), said the ISPR release.

It said Subir Nandi has long been suffering from chronic kidney disease ‘end-stage renal disease’ (ESRD) and has been on dialysis.

He underwent a bypass surgery in the USA in 2013 for critical triple vessel coronary artery disease and had an angioplasty in the USA earlier this year.

There was too much potassium in his blood before he suffered the cardiac arrest at the CMH emergency unit, the ISPR release said.

Following a dialysis, the singer was given therapeutic hypothermia treatment which continued for 48 hours and ended on Wednesday morning. He was also had 2nd session of dialysis on the day.
