Chattogram: A murder suspect was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Agrabad area under Double Mooring thana of the city early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Jabed, Jubo League activist and murder accused of former Chhatra League leader Mohiuddin Sohel, reports the UNB.

Sudip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Double Mooring Police Station, said that on information that a gang of terrorists was taking drug in Jamburi field area, a team of police conducted the drive.

Sensing the presence of police, the terrorist opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, leaving Jabed injured with bullet.

Later, the injured was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Ashikur Rahman, senior assistant commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said that after spotting location of Jabed, a team of police led by the OC conducted the drive around 12:20am.

The OC also received bullet on his right leg and is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The police team also recovered a pistol and arms with several round bullets from the spot.

Earlier on January 7, the former BCL leader Mohiuddin Sohel was lynched by an angry mob at Pahartali railway market of the city on allegation of extortion.

Sohel’s family members later claimed at a press briefing that he was killed in a planned way.

Shakirul Islam Shishir, younger brother of Sohel, filed a case with Double Mooring Police Station accusing 27 named and 150 unnamed people. Jabed was one of the main accused on the case.
