Magura: A Magura court on Tuesday granted bail to The Daily Star Editor and Publisher Mahfuz Anam in a defamation case, reports UNB.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Imtiajul Islam granted him the bail on a bond of Tk2,000 after hearing the lawsuit.

The court also fixed 19 May  for next hearing in the case.

Magura district unit Juba League vice-president Saberul Islam Sabuj filed the Tk5 crore libel suit against Mahfuz with the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on 18 February  for publishing ‘confusing’ and ‘defamatory’ reports in his daily on Awami League President Sheikh Hasina during the military-backed caretaker government.

The court summoned the accused to appear before it on the day.
