Jashore: A five-year-old girl was reportedly raped by her neighbour in Dhormotola rail line area of district town on Friday evening.

The suspected rapist was identified as Babu, 22, an auto-rickshaw driver. He has been on the run since the incident, reports the UNB.

Victim’s mother said her daughter was playing beside their house in the evening. Babu lured her to his room with promise to give chocolates and raped her.

He fled when the victim screamed, she said. Later, as news of the incident spread, locals demonstrated demanding his punishment.

Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Apurba Hasan said they detained Babu’s mother for interrogation.

‘ We’re looking for him,’  he said.
