Dhaka: At least two suspected militants were killed in an explosion after members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) cordoned off a suspected tin-shed den of militants at Bosila in Mohammadpur area of the capital on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Sumon and Sujon, Rab Additional Director General Colonel Jahangir Alam said, adding that the fingerprints and viscera samples have been taken from the bodies for DNA test for their detailed identity, reports the UNB.

Confirming the deaths of the two militants while talking to reporters during his visit to the spot, Rab Director General Benazir Ahmed, said, “They were undoubtedly militants... Rab had to fire 150 rounds of bullet to bring the situation under control.”

When the bomb disposal unit entered the house, they found scattered body organs at the house and three legs.

Four Improvised Electronic Devices (IEDs) were also found inside the house.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force cordoned off the house in Metro Housing Ld of Bosila around 3:30am, said Rab’s Legal and Media Wing chief Mufti Mahmud Khan.

He said sounds of gunshots and a big explosion were heard from the house around 4:45am and the roof of the house was blown off in the blast. Later, the Rab team opened fire from a safe distance, he added.

A bomb disposal unit and special force members also joined the Rab team.

The operation was called off around 4pm, said Rab-2 Commanding Officer Lt Col Ashique Billah.

Before the explosion, Rab detained three people—Sohagh, caretaker of the house, his wife Mousumi and Yousuf, imam of a mosque established beside the den.

Sohagh said the duo rented the house from April 1 at Tk 1,500 per month and they used to remain out of the house most of the time.
