Once very severe cyclonic storm, Fani has now weakened into a well-marked low over the Mymensingh-Netrakona region, reports the UNB. 

Fani which entered Bangladesh through the southeaster part on Saturday morning as a cyclonic storm later turned into a land deep depression. It moved north-northeastwards further, weakened into a land depression first and then into a well-marked low, said the latest Met office special bulletin.

It is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction further inland, weaken gradually and become unimportant finally, it said. 

Under its influence, the sky remains overcast and rain/thundershowers with gusty/squally wind continued at a few places over the country.

Steep pressure gradient persists over the North Bay and for this reason, gusty/squally wind speed of about 40-50 kph is likely over the North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

The maritime port of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No 3.

Due to new moon phase and steep pressure gradient, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalakati, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by wind-driven surge of 2-4 feet height above normal astronomical tide.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.

The Met office also no special weather bulletin will be issued in this regard.
