Kishoreganj: A nurse was killed after rape in a moving bus here on Monday night, claimed her family.

However, police said she died from injuries she suffered while getting down from the bus hurriedly, reports the UNB.

The deceased was identified as Shahinur Akhter Tania, 23, daughter of Giasuddin of Baherchar in Katiadi upazila. She used to work as a nurse at Ibn Sina Hospital in the capital.

Police arrested bus driver Nuruzzaman, 26, and his helper Lalu Mia, 25, over the incident.

Victim’s brother Badal Mia said Tania boarded a ‘Swarnalata Paribahan’ bus from Mohakhali bus stand in the capital on Monday to come to her home village.

When the bus reached Ujanpur in Katiadi, all but Tania got down from the bus around 9:30pm, he said, claiming that the driver and his helper violated the girl in the moving bus and strangled her with her scarf before throwing the body out of the vehicle at Gazaria nearby Bajitpur upazila.

Locals spotted the victim lying on the road and took her to Katiadi Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead around 10:45pm, Badal said.

However, Inspector (Investigation) of Katiadi Police Station Shafiqul Islam claimed that Tania sustained injuries while getting down from the bus hurriedly and later she succumbed to her injuries.

They sent the body to Sadar Hospital for autopsy and arrested the bus driver and his helper over the incident, he said.
