President signs three bills into laws
Dhaka: President Abdul Hamid on Thursday assented to three bills passed in the second session of the 11th parliament.
The bills are Plant Variety Protection Bill, 2019, Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council Bill, 2019 and Insurance Corporation Bill, 2019, said a Parliament Secretariat handout, the UNB reported.
The Jatiya Sangsad on April 28 passed the Plant Variety Protection Bill, 2019, aiming to protect intellectual property rights of local farmers alongside the researchers and experts.
The Parliament on April 29 passed the National Social Welfare Council Bill, 2019 seeking to have a law for the Council as it had been running since 1956 through a resolution and then a government decision.
On April 30, the Jatiya Sangsad passed the Insurance Corporation Bill seeking to raise the amount of authorised and paid-up capital of both Jiban Bima Corporation and Sadharan Bima Corporation.
Under the new law, the authorised capital of Jiban Bima Corporation will be Tk 300 crore while the paid-up capital Tk 30 crore. The authorised capital for Sadharan Bima will be Tk 1000 crore and the paid-up capital Tk 500 crore.
