Dhaka: The Association of Textile Engineers and Technologists (ATET) on Friday demanded action against Green Life Clothing Ltd owner Abu Faisal Mosabber Saimoon for ‘torturing’ engineer Sarwar Jahan Mithu.

ATET members at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club warned of demonstrations from next week if Saimoon is not arrested immediately. They also held a human chain in front of the press club, reports the UNB.

They claimed that textile Engineer Mithu was tortured by Saimoon on May 2. Mithu’s wife Asma Khanom said her husband is working as general manager at Green Life Washing Plant Ltd, a sister concern of Green Life Clothing Ltd.

Saimoon called Mithu to his Ashulia office and tortured him. He is currently being treated at a city hospital.

‘Saimoon threatened to kill us after we filed a case with Ashulia police. He tried to kill my husband. We want justice,’ she said.

Md Shafiqur Rahman, president of the Institution of Engineers and Technologists (ITET), said that they will go for tougher demonstrations if any engineer is tortured in future. ‘We urge the government to arrest the criminal within one week,’ he said.

Jamalpur-5 MP, engineer Mohammad Mozaffar Hossain, speaking as the chief guest, said that Saimoon must be brought to justice.

‘We urge the factory owners to respect their workers,’ he said.

ATET President Aminul Islam, and General Secretary Jamal Chowdhury Sohag, ATET founder president Rathin Saki, among others, were also present.
