Want democracy to celebrate 50th anniv of independence: Dr Kamal
Dhaka: Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain on Tuesday said a democratic atmosphere and the rule of law are necessary to restore people’s ownership of the country.
‘We want to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence in a democratic atmosphere. We also want to restore people’s ownership of the country by ensuring the rule of law,’ he said.
Dr Kamal came up with the remark while speaking at a joint meeting of Dhaka south and north city units of Gonoforum at its central office, reports the UNB.
He called upon Gonoforum leaders and activists to work for mobilising public support to ensure effective democracy in the country.
Dr Kamal, also the convener of Jatiya Oikyafront, alleged that the ruling party has given a false definition of democracy only to hang onto power.
Speaking at the programme, Gonoforum general secretary Reza Kibria urged the party leaders and activists to remain united and work for strengthening their organisational capacity. ‘We’ll be able to go to power in the days to come if we remain united and build the party with that goal.’
