Satkhira: Two women have been beaten to death allegedly by their husbands for dowry in the district on Thursday and Friday.

The deceased were identified as Sumaya Khatun, 23, wife of Shakib of Kamanagar of the district town; and Bilkis Khatun, 22, Kabir Sheikh of Chandpur village in Tala upazila.

Sumaya’s aunt Fatima said Shakib used to torture her niece for dowry, reports the UNB.

‘He beat Sumaya to death following an altercation with her on early Friday,’ she alleged. ‘To conceal the murder, he hanged her body from the ceiling.’

Bilkis’ father Shawkat Hossain said her daughter was beaten to death by Kabir on Thursday afternoon who demanded Tk 70,000 in dowry.

Later, Kabir’s family members poured pesticide in her mouth to make it appear a suicide, he said.

Two cases have been filed with the Sadar and Tala police stations.

Police said they are trying to arrest the accused husbands.
