Juba League leader Khalid held for running casino
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members on Wednesday arrested a city Juba League leader from Gulshan area for reportedly running an illegal casino.
Three firearms, including an unauthorised one along with bullets, and contraband Yaba pills were also recovered from his possession.
The arrestee is Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan, organising secretary of Dhaka South city unit of Juba League. He is also president of Youngmen’s Club, Fakirerpool where the casino is situated.
The arrest came after a Rab mobile court detained 142 people from the casino.
Contacted, Director (Legal and Media) of the Rab Headquarters Lt Col Sarwar- Bin-Kashem said the elite force picked Khalid up around 7:30pm.
He said the Rab team recovered an illegal firearm loaded with bullets and Yaba tablets during the drive.
They also seized two other licensed firearms for violating the licence conditions, Sarwar said.
He said a Rab mobile court, led by its executive magistrate Sarower Alam, conducted a drive at the casino in the evening and detained 142 people.
According to media reports, there are 60 illegal casinos in the capital.
Gambling takes place regularly at the casinos situated in Segunbagicha, Motijheel, Fakirerpool, Dilkusha, Bank Colony, Arambagh, Nayapaltan, Kakrail, Gulistan, Osmani Udyan, Bangabazar, Gulshan Link Road, Uttara, New Market and Kalabagan areas.
