Samrat lands in jail
Expelled Jubo League Dhaka South unit President Ismail Hossain Samrat who was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for possessing animal hide following his arrest was sent to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Sunday evening.
Samrat was taken to the jail around 8:30pm, said jail sources.
Earlier in the afternoon, Executive Magistrate of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) headquarters Sarwoer Alam sentenced Samrat to six months’ simple imprisonment under the Wildlife Conservation Act after the elite force recovered two hides of wild animals from his Kakrail office.
Around 5am on Sunday, a team of Rab arrested Samrat and his associate Anamul Haque Arman from Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla “on specific allegation”.
Arman was also sentenced to six months’ jail as he was found drunk when he was arrested. He was sent to Comilla Central Jail.
The Rab team launched the drive at Samrat’s office along with him around 1:40pm.
On September 24, the government imposed a travel ban on Samrat.
