Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader here on Sunday said the port city of Chattogram will also be brought under the metro rail network.
“It’s good news for the residents of Chattogram that the government has taken an initiative to construct three lines of metro rail,” he said.

The minister was inaugurating and unveiling plaques of seven development projects at Sarak Bhaban in Agrabad area of the city.
Quader, also Awami League general secretary, said a feasibility study will be conducted soon to introduce the metro rail service in Chattogram.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed him to start the feasibility study of the mass rapid transit (MRT) lines and he has asked all concerned to begin it soon.
Of them, the length of the MRT line-1 will be of 26.5 kms from Kalurghat to Airport while that of MRT line-2 13.5 kms from City Gate to Nimtala and the length of the MRT line-3 will be of 14.5 kms from Oxygen crossing to Firingibazar and Panchliash to AK Khan.
The project cost is estimated at Tk 1,545 crore.
The projects which were inaugurated include four lanes of Chattogram-Rangamati Highway from Hathazari to Raujan, office-cum inspection bungalow of Fatikchhari road sub-division, electronic toll system and weighing scale of Shah Amanat Bridge and 31.82-metre PC Girder Bridge on Chattogram-Kaptai regional highway.
