BITS organized a one-day long event, from 9 AM to 9 PM, entitled ‘Ecospree 2019’ where participants from every age group participated in exhibitions and seminar at Women’s Voluntary Association (WVA) at Dhanmondi 27 in the capital on Friday (October 25).

Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Mubarak Ahmad Khan (Scientific Advisor, BJMC). The speakers and special guests of the event were Morshed Mishu, Peya Jannatul, Maria Nur, Sadman Sadik, and Ahmed Tahsin Shams.

Ecospree is designed to create massive environmental awareness through art and entertainment. The categories of the exhibitions are: a. Art b. Cartoon c. Photography d. Short Film. The event was scheduled to exhibit Art (Paper/Canvas Art & Digital Art), Photography, Cartoon, Calligraphy, Short Film & Documentary Film. After that the session named Green Talk & Soirée set sail. Thirdly, Live Talk: Interactive Breakout Sessions on environment related issues started where notable celebrities shared their thoughts and voice for environment. The event ended with musical performance by renowned singer Topu & prize giving ceremony.

The most enlightening session was conducted by Mubarak Ahmad Khan who is a Bangladeshi scientist who has been doing research since 1990, with the aim of creating and utilizing Jute's commercial uses and possibilities. According to the science-based research database, Scopus, he is considered to be the leading scientist in the study of jute worldwide. He is currently serving as the Chief Biological Advisor of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC). Among his many discoveries mentionable are Sonali bag, jutin, helmets and tiles of which all are made from jute.

International cartoonist Morshed Mishu shed light on the practice of environmental consciousness in daily lives. Ahmed Tahsin Shams, academic, poet, and film-maker, gave theoretical insights on the “ego-conscious” approach versus “eco-conscious” approach while practicing and interpreting artworks. The event was graced by veteran media personnel Shomi Kaiser, Director of FBCCI, and Managing Director of Dhansiri Productions, President of E-Commerce who emphasized the role of commerce industry in changing human behavior regarding environment.

The registration fee was announced to plant trees and the event was organized by BITS, supported by Euro Viigil (Pvt.) Ltd, says a press release. BITS is a non-profit organization that believes in “Do Your Own BITS of Work.”
