Chaos by Pro-BNP lawyers disrupts judicial activities at SC
The judicial activities of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court remained halted since Thursday morning amid chaos by pro-BNP lawyers demanding that hearing on the bail petition of BNP chief Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust graft case be held today (Thursday).
The pro-BNP lawyers started demonstrations when the Appellate Division deferred until December 12 the hearing on Khaleda Zia’s bail petition in the graft case.
Protesting the deferment of the hearing, some 200 pro-BNP lawyers entered the courtroom around 10:30 am and created a chaotic situation, forcing judges of the six-member Appellate Division bench to leave the courtroom ahead of the regular break.
After a regular break, when the judges of the Appellate Division bench returned to the courtroom again, the BNP lawyers started shouting again, disrupting the court activists.
The lawyers took position at the courtroom and chanted slogan, ”We want justice”.
The court activities remained suspended till filing of this report around 12 noon.
Earlier in the day, the Appellate Division deferred until December 12 the hearing on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail petition in Zia Charitable Trust Graft Case.
The court also asked the medical board formed to treat Khaleda Zia to submit a report on her health condition within December 12.
The six-member Appellate Division bench issued the order following a petition seeking time.
