Event held to protest on Violence against Women
An event to protest on Violence against Women was recently held by Population Services and Training Center (PSTC) at Rabindra Sarobar premises of the capital.
Among the dignitaries present at the event, former Vice Chancellor of University of Dhaka Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, famous writer Selina Hossain, A. S. M. Mahbubul Alam, Former Secretary to the Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Project Director, Directorate of Women Affairs Dr. Abul Hossain, Shahnaz Munni, Head of News, News 24, Rokeya Kabir, Executive Director, BNPS, Richard lace, Country Director, BBC Media Action, Thilakan Sathasivam, Country Director, MDF Bangladesh, Kazi Suraiya Sultana. Executive Director, RHSTEP, Actress Golam Farida Chonda and athlete Shirin Sultana were present to express their solidarity with the movement.
The program was inaugurated by displaying placards featuring various types of slogans of protest. The honorable guests expressed their solidarity against the violence on women at different stages of the event. Dhriti Nartanalaya performed their dance items while Bot Tola Theatre arranged a drama and Band Nakshikantha performed some songs.
Executive Director of Population Services and Training Center (PSTC) read a Solidarity Message on behalf of participatory organizations at the end of the program and expressed his gratitude to the audience.
Bangladesh has joined the 16 days activism of anti-violence against women movement like other countries of the world. Every year from 25 November (the International day for Elimination of Violence against Women) the 16 Days of Activism starts with observing to protest violence against women and concludes on 10 December (International Human Rights Day).
