Jute mill workers block road, rail tracks in Khulna

Khulna: Workers of state-owned jute mills in Khulna on Monday morning blocked road and rail as part of their month-long protest programme to press home their five-point demand, reports local news agency.
The Daulatpur police officer-in-charge Maruf Ahmed said the agitating workers put barricades on several roads and rail tracks, including Khulna-Jessore highway in Khulna at about 8:00am.
As per the announcement of the workers, they are likely to continue their blockade till 12:00pm, the OC added.
The workers’ demands include adequate allocation for the jute industry, payment of arrears, formation of a wage board and step back from any move to privatise the state-owned jute mills.
