Stolen newborn rescued in Khulna; 2 held

Khulna: Police rescued a newborn boy from a private hospital in the city on Friday, a day after he was stolen from another hospital.
The law enforcers also arrested a couple—Nasima Begum Shabana, 35, and her husband Abdul Mannan Jamaddar, 45, in this connection. Hailing from Barisal district, the couple used to reside at Aichgati village in Rupsha upazila, reported UNB.
Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, officer in-charge of Khulna Sadar Police Station, said Nasima and Mannan took the newborn to ‘Medipath Clinic and Diagnostic Centre’ at Santidham intersection in the city, stating that he fell sick after the birth through cesarean section.
However, its manager Nasir Uddin informed police on Friday morning after observing their suspicious activities.
Later, police along with the father of the newborn rushed in and rescued him at noon.
The OC said Sanjida Begum, wife of Idris Ali of Nandanpur in Rupsha upazila, gave birth to two twins—one boy and one daughter—at Khulna General Hospital on March 15.
However, the baby boy of the pair went missing from the hospital on Thursday morning.
Later, Idris Sheikh filed a case with Sadar Police Station in this connection.
