EC orders withdrawal of Chitalmari UNO
Bagerhat: The Election Commission (EC) has ordered withdrawal of the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Chitalmari over the allegations of irregularities and partiality in the upcoming Union Council (UC) election.
District election officer Md Ruhul Amin Mollick on Friday told reporters that he had received a letter from the EC in this connection. The EC has also sent a letter to the Public Administration Secretary asking to replace the UNO.
Ruhul Amin noted that the order came following the allegations that the UNO joined electioneering for certain candidates, misused power in favour of the candidates and issued threats to the election officers.
The Regional Election Officer of Khulna has also been asked to probe the allegations against the UNO.
However, Deputy Commissioner Md Jahangir Alam said he had not received any letter till Friday afternoon regarding the withdrawal of the UNO.
Earlier, the EC issued orders to withdraw the officers-in-charge of Morelganj and Rampal police stations and a sub-inspector for their failure to control the law and order situation and ensure a congenial environment for election.
