Bandarban: A chairman candidate of forthcoming union council election was shot to death at Gyalenga union council in Ruma upazila of Bandarban early on Monday.

The deceased is Shanti Tripura, aged around 37, also a member of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS).

Police recovered the body of Shanti Tripura on Monday morning.

The Ruma police officer-in-charge Shariful Islam said a gang of miscreants picked up Shanti from his house and took him to Adika Para at about 3:30 am.

Later, the criminals shot him and fled the scene, leaving him dead on the spot.

Shanti Tripura was nominated as the chairman candidates for the third phase of union council election on 23 April.
