Ballot-stuffing at night to be prevented: CEC
Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said special measures have been taken to prevent the stuffing of ballot boxes with fake votes cast on ballot papers on the eve of the first phase of the Union Council elections.
The CEC came up with the information while talking to reporters at a press briefing arranged over the law and order situation ahead of the first phase of Union Council elections, billed for March 22 at the Election Commission media centre.
Briefing reporters, the CEC said if any incident of irregularities or violence is reported from any polling center during the elections then the security official at the center concerned and officer-in-charge of the concerned police station will be held responsible for this.
Besides, Rakib also said that they do not get desired cooperation from local administration and police all the time.
Three election commissioners— Abu Hafiz, Shah Nawaz and Brigadier general (retd) Javed Ali, EC secretary Sirajul Islam were, present, among others.
As part of the first phase election, 721 UCs are going to polls on Tuesday.
