Satkhira: Two people were shot by police as they created disorder in a polling station of Kumira union of Tala upazila in Satkhira in the early house of Tuesday.

The injured are Ruhul Kuddus and Rubel Sheikh. Police said both of the injured are local leaders of Awami League.

The Patkelghata police officer-in-charge Tariqul Islam said a group of miscreants intruded into Bhagbaha polling centre and snatched ballots from the presiding officer. The miscreants tried to stuff ballots in favour of their candidates. They attacked the polling officials as they restrained them.

Police opened fire to bring the situation under control which left two of the miscreants shot.

The bullet-hits were taken to adjacent Loknath Clinic and later shifted to Satkhira Hospital.

OC said the miscreants also rigged vote in two other polling centres of the union.

Later, voting suspended in Bhagbaha, Abhaytala, and Dadpur polling stations, said the Patkelghata police.

However, candidates complained that supporters of the Awami League-backed aspirants have been snatched ballots and cast fake votes since Monday night.

It has been known, miscreants hurled bombs at some houses including BNP-blessed candidate Ibrahim Hossain’s residence at Deyara in Kolaroa.
