BB governor seeks help of four intl agency chiefs to realise lost money
Dhaka: Bangladesh Bank`s newly appointed governor Fazle Kabir has sought help of four international agencies including chairman of the board of governors of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to realize the money that was lost through cyber heist.
The other three agencies are the Philippines’ central bank, the Philippines Anti-money Laundering Council and the Bangladesh mission to the United Nations in New York.
Bangladesh Bank`s spokesman and executive director Subhankar Saha informed this while briefing reporters on Sunday about the ongoing efforts of the central bank to realise its over $100 million that the cyber thieves took out from the country`s treasury account with US Fed through cyber heist.
He said the Bangladesh central bank governor has requested them to extend their cooperation through separate letters written directly to the four dignitaries.
Besides, the governor has personally communicated with them through telephonic conversation.
He said a US Congressman also asked the US Federal Reserves to give clarification as to how the money was taken out from Bangladesh’s treasury account with US bank.
Subhankar Saha noted that the central bank governor in a meeting with general managers and other senior officials directed them to take adequate measures to strengthen the cyber security.
In his first meeting with the top officials of the central bank, the governor also asked them to follow the rules and regulations of the Bangladesh Bank as per its manuals in every deal to prevent any further incident of heist.
