Dhaka: A delegation, led by US Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistant Secretary for International Affairs Alan Bersin, arrives here on Tuesday to discuss potential areas of collaboration, especially aviation security and law enforcement.

The ‘interagency delegation’ includes officials from the DHS, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the US Department of State.

They will hold a series of meetings with Bangladesh government officials to engage on security issues during their three-day stay in Dhaka.

‘We welcome this visit by officials from the US Department of State, Federal Aviation Administration and the US Department of Homeland,’ US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat was quoted in a statement issued by the Embassy on Monday.

Security as an opportunity to exchange ideas about enhancing security for the wellbeing of citizens of both the countries, the envoy said.

Earlier on March 21, the government signed an agreement with a British firm, Redline Aviation Security Ltd, to improve the security system at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The Redline Aviation Security Ltd is now assigned to provide consultancy services, supervise airport security, and guide and train the airport manpower.

Redline Aviation Security Ltd won the contract, involving Tk 732.5 million, to provide the three types of service for the next two years.
