Tonu’s body exhumed for fresh autopsy

Comilla: The body of Comilla Victoria Government College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu was exhumed in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla for a fresh post-mortem examination on Wednesday.
In compliance with a court order, Tonu’s body was dug out from the grave at Mirzapur village at about 11:30am after ten days of her burial, reports UNB.
The body was exhumed in presence of Lutfun Nahar, executive magistrate, Sadar upazila.
Dhaka CID special superintendent of police Nazmul Karim, Comilla superintendent of police Mohammad Shah Abid Hossain, and Tanu’s father Year Hossain were present.
A court on Monday ordered that the body of Tonu be exhumed for a fresh autopsy.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Begum Joynab Begum passed the order following a petition filed by officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of police of the district AKM Manjur Alam, also investigation officer of the case.
The court also asked the Comilla district administration to take necessary steps by assigning an executive magistrate to exhume the body from the grave for collecting DNA sample, fresh post-mortem and proper investigation of the case.
Sohagi Jahan Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Victoria College and a member of Victoria College Theatre, went missing on 20 March, hours after she had gone out of her house at Comilla Mainamati Cantonment for private tuition.
Later, Tonu’s father Yar Hossain found his daughter lying senseless with severe injuries in her body in a bush adjacent to their house.
She was then whisked off to Combined Military Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
