Jhalakathi: A court in Jhalakathi on Tuesday sentenced two siblings to 15 years’ imprisonment each for an attempt to kill their neighbour in Sadar upazila in 2009.

The convicts, Mamun Sharif and Masud Sharif, of Sanjoypur village in Sadar upazila, were also fined Tk21,000, in default, to suffer 25 months more in jail.

Jhalakati Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Abu Shamim Azad handed down the verdict.

According to the prosecution, the two siblings hacked their neighbour Mahidul Islam Shikder following a previous enmity on 10 June 2009.

Touhidul Islam, brother of the victim, filed a case against the duo.
