Voting suspended in Jamalpur centre over ballot snatching
Jamalpur: Voting at a polling centre in Nayanagar union of Melandah upazila was suspended as miscreants tried to snatch ballot boxes before the start of the election on Thursday morning, reported UNB.
Around 30 minutes before the polling began at Mama-Bhagina Government Primary School centre in Nayanagar union, a group of armed miscreants entered there around 7:30am, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer John Kenedy Jambil.
The hoodlums then took a number of ballot papers and started stamping those, the UNO added.
Later, the returning officer suspended voting at the polling centre.
Voting in the election to 639 union councils in the second phase began at about 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without any break.
