5 hurt in clash over capturing Comilla polling centre
Comilla: Five people were injured as a clash erupted during an attempt of the supporters of the Jatiya Party and BNP-backed chairman candidates to resist an alleged bid of the of Awami League-backed candidate to capture a polling centre in Khoshbash union of Barura upazila on Thursday morning.
BNP-backed chairman candidate Jakir Hossain and JP-backed chairman candidate Shah Alam were among the injured, reports UNB.
The Barura police officer-in-charge Aslam Shikder said the ensued at about 8:30am when the supporters of Jakir Hossain and Shah Alam obstructed the followers of the AL-backed chairman candidate when they allegedly tried to capture Arifpur polling centre.
Both the groups opened fire at each other and blasted crude bombs, leaving Jakir Hossain and Shah Alam and three activists of AL injured.
Informed, police rushed in and brought the situation under control by firing blank shots.
Police also recovered five crude bombs from the spot and picked up five people for quizzing.
