3 poll officials detained in Jessore
Jessore: Police held three election officials on charges of fake votes at two union councils of Sadar upazila on Thursday morning.
The voting officials are a presiding officer and two assistant presiding officers.
The additional district magistrate Sohel Hassan said police arrested presiding officer Rafiqul Islam and assistant presiding officer Ishrat Jahan of Bijoynagar Government Primary School polling centre of Kashimpur Union, as ballot papers with fake votes was found from their possession.
The Jessore superintendent of police Anisur Rahman said police arrested an assistant presiding officer as he allegedly facilitated casting fake votes for Awami League chairman candidate in Churamankathi union of Jessore Sadar upazila.
District election officer Tareq Ahmed said supporters of the AL candidate stormed Churamankati Government Primary School polling centre and started casting fake votes with the help of the assistant presiding officer, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Akbar, a senior teacher of Jessore Police Lines High School, at about 9:45am.
Voting at the centre was suspended following the incident.
