Witnesses said an extended meeting was arranged at Rasulpur High School ground for selecting the AL candidate of the upcoming third phase of the union council election at around on Saturday evening.

Ruling-party LAWMAKER Abdul Wadud Dara of Rajshahi-5 constituency attended the meeting as the chief guest.

At one state, a clash took place between the followers of Dara and the followers of former upazila chairman Abdul Mazid, who is also an Awami League leader.

The cars of LAWMAKER Dara and current upazila chairman Nazrul Islam were vandalised during the clash.

Police fired several rounds of rubber bullets and teargas shells to control the situation.

Later, the lawmaker left the scene escorted by leaders and activists.

The Durgapur police officer-in-charge Porimal Kumar Chakraborty said the situation is now under control.
