Case filed over Mongla factory collapse

A file shows the under-construction cement factory that collapsed on Thursday in Mongla, Bagerhat killing seven workers.

Khulna: A case has been filed in connection with the cement factory building collapse in Mongla port area.

Mongla police sub-inspector Rabindra Nath filed the case on Friday night.

Seven workers were killed and 53 others injured as the roof of the under-construction cement factory of ‘Sena Kalyan Sangstha’ crashed at about 1:30pm on Thursday.

Some 120 workers were working in the factory when the roof of the 40-foot building collapsed.

Of the injured, seven received primary treatment while 46 were admitted to different hospitals.

Meanwhile, six of the injured workers were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital at Jessore from Khulna Medical College Hospital on Saturday as their condition was stated to be critical.

Besides, two probe bodies formed to investigate the incident have started their work.

Eight members of the nine-man probe panel, led by additional divisional commissioner of Khulna Faruk Hossain, visited the spot on Saturday morning.

They talked to the factory authorities and injured workers who were undergoing treatment at Mongla Port and Rampal hospitals.

The other five-member investigation committee formed by the Sena Kalyan Sangstha started their work on Friday, said deputy director general of Mongla Cement Factory Captain Syed Helal Hossain.

He said the committee would submit its report within seven days.
