Dhaka: A two-member BNP delegation on Monday provided Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Fazle Kabir with information and experts’ opinions to help the central bank to crack the mystery behind the heist of Tk 800 crore from its account with the US Federal Reserve Bank.

BNP finance affairs secretary Abdus Salam and assistant office secretary Abdul Latif Jony met the Governor at his office at about 1:15pm and also handed him over a letter of the party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

In the letter, Fakhrul said, ‘A well-thought-out media presentation on Bangladesh Banks’ money heist was held on 29 March at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office. We think this presentation papers will help investigate the incident.’

Jony said they handed over the Governor the presentation papers made by local and international experts, a CD and some other information in a bid to help the BB properly investigate the money heist incident and recover the money.

He said they requested Kabir to take effective steps so that the Bangladesh Bank can get back the stolen money.

The BNP leader said the Governor thanked them for sharing the information and assured that they will take all necessary steps in this regard.

Kabir, a former finance secretary, was appointed as the central bank Governor following the resignation of Dr Atiur Rahman on 15 March amid a huge row over the heist of $101 million from the Bangladesh Bank’s account with the US Federal Reserve Bank.
