Dhaka; Yaar Hossain, father of slain Comilla Victoria College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu, has rejected the findings of the first autopsy conducted on her body as it failed clear how the girl was killed.

Earlier on Monday, doctors of Forensic Department at Comilla Medical College Hospital revealed that the autopsy did not find any sign of rape before the death of Tonu.

‘We didn’t find any sign of rape and it is not even clear how she was killed,’ Forensic Department Professor Kamoda Prosad Saha told UNB.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Yaar Hossain expressed his discontent over the autopsy report. ‘I myself took the bloodstained body of my daughter to the CMH. My daughter was killed. But what the doctors are saying now! Is that my daughter was killed by an evil spirit?’ he questioned.

Yaar Hossain hoped that the second autopsy will unveil the real cause of her death, and sought the Prime Minister’s intervention in getting justice for Tonu’s murder.

On Wednesday last, the body of Tonu was exhumed from her grave in Muradnagar upazila of the district for a fresh postmortem in compliance with a court order.

Meanwhile, various cultural organisations and students of different institutions have staged protests refuting the autopsy and demanding justice for Tonu murder.

Sammilita Sangskritik Jote on Tuesday demanded the arrest of Sohagi Jahan Tonu’s killers by 11 April for bringing them to quick justice.

An eight-member team of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, led by its President Golam Kuddus, submitted a memorandum, containing their demand, to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

The Jote leaders said they will hold a joint rally of cultural activists from where they may announce countrywide shutdown of all cultural activities.

They voiced resentment as there has been no visible progress in investigation into the Tonu murder case though 16 days had elapsed since the gruesome murder, leading to the flow unverified information across the media and social media.

In Jhalakati, a human chain was organised at Fire Service Mor of the district town under the banner of Sachetan Nagarik Committee of TIB. They demanded arrest and hanging of Tonu’s killers.

Bangladesh Human Rights Commission’s Panchagarh branch also formed a human chain on Panchagarh–Dhaka Highway in front of Sher-e-Bangla Park with the same demand.

Library for Children (LC) in Munshiganj submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the deputy commissioner of the district, demanding exemplary punishment of Tonu’s killers.

The body of Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Victoria College and a member of Victoria College Theatre, was recovered from Comilla’s Mainamati Cantonment area on 20 March. Police suspected that she had been raped before the murder.

The following day, victim’s father filed a case with Kotwali Model Police Station in connection with the incident.

The first autopsy report of her body was revealed on Monday last after 15 days of the brutal murder.

Earlier on 28 March, a Comilla court ordered that the body of Tonu be exhumed for a fresh autopsy following a petition filed by officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of police of the district AKM Manjur Alam, also investigation officer of the case.
