Netrakona: A tribunal in Netrakona on Tuesday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for raping a minor school girl in Atpara upazila in 2003.

The court also fined the convict, identified as Mayan Miah of Dariabox village of the same upazila, Tk. 25,000, in default to suffer six months more rigorous imprisonment.

The convict was also awarded 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him a further Tk. 25,000, in default to suffer a further six months, for abducting the girl, reports UNB.

Both terms of the convictions will run simultaneously, mentioned the judgment.

According to the prosecution, the convict, Nayan and his associates, abducted a minor girl from Mustapur while she was going to school on 7 January 2003.

Nayan took the girl to a secret place and raped her.

He also violated the girl on some more occasions in different places and promised to marry her but later he denied it.

The victim filed a case with Atpara police station against Nayan on 11 October, the same year. Police submitted charge sheet against the man to a court after an investigation.

After examining witnesses and documents, Judge of Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal AKM Abul Kashem handed down the verdict on Tuesday.
