Faridpur: Two men were found dead with their bodies carrying stab injuries at West Khabashpur Miapara Road in Faridpur early on Friday.

Miscreants stabbed to death the two municipality sweepers, Manik Jamaddar, and his brother-in-law Bharat Jamaddar, residents of Harijan Polli in Alipur area, while doing cleaning work on the road early in the morning, said Enayet Hossain, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station.

Local people spotted the bodies lying in a pool of blood on the road while going to offer their Fazr prayers and informed police.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue.

The bodies bore several injury marks on the faces and heads, said SI.

Quoting Kishore Jamaddar, father of Manik, police said some miscreants had being issuing threat to Manik asking him not to do cleaning work on the roads at midnight; they might have committed the murders.

Mohammad Kamruzzaman, additional superintendent of police, Faridpur, said police are investigating the incident with highest importance and the killers will be arrested soon.

However, no cases were filed as of filing this report at about 11:30.

Meanwhile, member of the Harijon community, which the dead belonged to, blocked Mujib Road after torching tyres protesting the killing.

Later, they brought out a procession and staged a demonstration in front of the local press club at about 10:00am.

Faridpur municipality mayor Sheikh Mahtab Ali Methu addressed the rally.

Speakers at the rally threatened to go for a tougher movement if the killers were not arrested within next 48 hours.
