SC Bar Council polls begins

Dhaka: Voting started in the Supreme Court Bar Council Election 2015-16 at the Bar building auditorium at about 10:00am on Sunday and will continue till 5:00pm.
The election will be holding on Sunday and Monday.
A total of 4,362 lawyers registered with the council will exercise their franchise to elect 14 posts of the executive members of the Bar Council.
Of the total executive members, seven will be elected to general seats and one each to seven regional group seats.
A total of 31 lawyers from Blue panel, comprising pro-BNP-Jamaat lawyers, and White panel of pro-Awami League and leftist lawyers are contesting in the election.
Pro-BNP Jamaat contestant for the president post is Khandakar Mahbub Hossain, while Mahbubuddin Khan for the post of general secretary, ASM Moktar Kabir Khan and Mohammad Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan for the post of vice-president, Shawkat Ara Begum for the post treasurer, and advocate Mazedul Islam Patwari and advocate Yusuf Ali are contesting for the post of assistant secretary.
On the other hand, pro-Awami League and leftists contestants are Yusuf Hossain Humayun for the president post, Momtaz Uddin Mehedi for general secretary’s post, Abul Khayer and Taherul Islam for the vice-president’s post, Amir Hossain for the treasurer’s post and Delwar Mostofa Chowdhury and Shuja Al Faruki are candidates for assistant secretary’s post.
