Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said that the hartal and blockade enforced by the BNP-Jamaat Alliance have lost the bite, and these are nothing but the programmes of killing people.

“(They’re) calling hartal every day, enforcing blockade every day, but there’s no effectiveness of these actually, (they’re) killing so many people, I don’t know why these are being done (by BNP-Jamaat Alliance),” she said.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while delivering her introductory speech during her visit to the ICT Division of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Division Junaid Ahmed Polok was, among others, was also present during the visit.

Sheikh Hasina said the government is doing whatever is needed to stop killing in the name of hartal and blockade, and urged people to remain aware in this connection.

Hasina said the country has achieved enough progress in all sectors. “But, we’re experiencing some problems at present... this is unfortunate, arson attacks, burning and killing people are taking place, these are causing problems to all,” she said.

The Prime Minister also said these destructive activities will not continue for a long time. “We’ll be able to overcome these problems.”

She said no one has the right to resist the advancement of the country. “When the country is marching forward, no one has the right to block the country’s advancement,” Hasina said.
