9 get life in prison for killing minor in Khulna

A court in Khulna has sentenced nine people to life imprisonment for killing a minor boy in Terokhada upazila in 2003.

The convicts are Abdul Sobhan, Md Karim Sheikh, Golam Rasul, Saiful Sheikh, Abdus Sattar Sheikh, Md Jabbar Sheikh, Md Rahim Sheikh and Abdul Jalil Sheikh, residents of Ajgora village in the upazila.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Abul Kashem, 12, son of Edris Ali, was strangulated to death by the convicts on 18 February 2003.

Victim’s father filed a case with Terokhada Police Station against 23 people in this connection the following day.

Rezaul Islam, sub-inspector of the police station, submitted a charge sheet against nine of them on February 24, 2004 after investigation.

After examining the records and 17 witnesses, Additional Session’s Judge SM Solaiman handed down the verdict on Wednesday.
