16 held over sabotage plan in Dhaka

Dhaka: Police arrested 16 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-Shibir for ‘sabotage plan’ from different places of Dhaka during a drive continuing for 24 hours till Monday morning.
Deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said eight leaders and activists of BNP and eight of Jamaat-Shibir were arrested for planning subversive activities on the 70th day of the countrywide indefinite transport blockade amid 72-hour spell of nationwide hartal, enforced by the BNP-led 20-Party Alliance.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia called the indefinite blockade from 6 January as the government did not allow her party and its allies to hold protest rallies in the capital on 5 January.
